Lonely Library || Open 

Frustrated with her work, Emmeline crumpled yet another piece of parchment and tossed it towards the waste basket near her table. Letting out a bit of a sigh, she tried to start again. 

Witch hunting began in the 14th century. It was the cause for many muggle deaths, men, women and children. As we look back upon it, there can be no assurance of their innocence. Muggles now believe that the crimes which they were burned for are not possible ever, that just shows that they are small-minded creatures. 

She cursed again, unhappy with the work she had done and crumpled the page yet again. Another sigh escaped her pursed lips as she dipped her quill in ink. Pulling her legs underneath her, she got herself more comfortable in the seat she’d chosen, she would be here a long while.

He nodded his head, hoping that she wasn’t lying. And then she did something surprising; she was moving over to sit next to him. Shocked, he kept his eyes on her, watching her settle in next to him. Biting his bottom lip, he muttered, “What are you doing?” But she answered that shortly after, petting Caroline in his arms. As her hand moved away, he felt her hand lightly touch his own and he glanced up to see her blushing. Xenophilius murmured, “It’s alright.” Noticing Emmeline was going back to her studying, he continued to pet Caroline, who seemed fairly interested in her owner’s new friend. Without warning, Caroline leaped out of his arms and onto the girl’s lap, quite amazing for a kitten that size. 

She could feel her cheeks tinged pink, continuing to flip through her books. She was a little surprised at the kitten, which had so gracefully pounced into her lap, turning her face to Xenophilius with wide eyes. She brought a hand down and pet the kitten lightly, letting her rub against her fingertips. Her purrs were very pronounced for a cat her size, Emmeline though briefly. “What’s it’s name?” She asked quietly, grabbing her round the middle as she tried to hop on the table.

He tried to protest, saying it was nothing but Emmeline’s head was already under the table, staring at Caroline. Of course Caroline being Caroline meowed at the girl and then Xeno was greeted with wild eyes. He muttered, “Shh! Yes and I wouldn’t like the whole world to know about it, thanks!” He tried his best to hide Caroline in his hands as the black kitten tried to escape. “She’s new and I’m trying to get her used to me, ” he confessed, not daring to glance at anybody else in the room. He was afraid they would tell on him or something if he made eye contact. Silly, Lovegood. 

“Oh Phil,” she said with a bit of a laugh, “loosen up, I’m not going to tell anyone!” Before she knew it, she was standing and moving her chair closer to Xenophilius’ side. Shuffling her books over as well, she settled back down in her chair and reached under the table to pet the small kitten. “She’s very soft,” she said in a whisper, her fingertips grazing the kitten before she pulled her hand back out. Her hand grazed the side of Xenophilius’ hand as she did so, causing her to blush furiously. “‘M sorry,” she said quietly, putting her eyes back on a book and flipping the pages quickly.
